Wind turbine technology is advancing – but there are still fundamental problems

The cost of generating energy from wind has fallen over the past decade but there are still areas of improvement. Particularly in removing the need for gears and reducing the cost of maintenance which is high.

Wind farms, both on-shore and off-shore, are exposed to the elements and any technology that can extend the life of wind turbines and extend the period over which capital costs can be amortised is of high importance.
